Jennifer Davison is an experienced negotiator, collaborative practitioner and litigator in the District of Columbia and Maryland. She appreciates that every family is different and works with each client to understand their individual needs and goals. Jennifer is skilled in helping her clients develop pragmatic and creative solutions to a variety of family law issues including child support, alimony, custody, property division and prenuptial agreements.

Q: Why did you become a family law attorney?

A: I knew early on in my legal education that I wanted to work directly with people. I’ve always been interested in psychology and family dynamics, and I was drawn to family law for that reason. Being able to work with real people in real life tough situations, I try to contextualize their situation, empathize, and identify solutions to help my clients and their families.

Q: What are two things you enjoy about your practice and why?

A: It is rewarding to hear from a client after a case concludes that the client is well situated — and to know that our work together helped put them on a good path. And, at the risk of sounding corny, I also enjoy working with my colleagues who are smart and thoughtful and bring much-needed levity to the practice.

Q: When you’re not practicing law, what are some things you enjoy doing?

A: I like to try new recipes out on my family (I have a 99.9% success rate if chocolate is involved). I spend a lot of time chasing my kids around which is both enjoyable and exhausting.

Q: What is one thing about yourself many people don’t know about you?

A: I did not grow up liking dogs (I know, I know). I got a pandemic puppy – as crazy as she makes me, she is now a part of my family, and I cannot imagine having it any other way.

Q: What advice would you give your younger self?

A: I would tell myself that we are in the business of relationships. Each client comes to us having an established relationship dynamic with the opposing party. The relationship dynamic can, in some cases, get in the way of constructive solutions. I have a responsibility to help a client avoid past relationship patterns (which can be negative or unproductive) in order to make good decisions for their future.
